Menikah Tingkatkan Kesehatan Mental Pria

Kuningan Terkini - Sebuah studi terbaru yang dipublikasikan dalam Journal of Family Psychology menemukan, bahwa pernikahan mampu meningkatkan kesehatan mental pria.
Menurut para peneliti di Ohio State University, sebagian besar pria mendapatkan dorongan untuk lebih sehat secara mental ketika mereka memiliki pasangan. Peneliti menggunakan data yang dikumpulkan untuk studi National Longitudinal Survey of Youth 1997 dengan responden pria Amerika yang lahir antara tahun 1980 dan 1984.
Mereka menganalisa bagaimana hidup bersama dengan pasangan pasca pernikahan berdampak pada kesehatan emosional para pria. Hasilnya, tekanan emosional pria berkurang jauh ketika mereka memutuskan untuk menikahi pasangannya, sementara bagi pria yang hanya hidup bersama dengan pasangan tanpa pernikahan, tidak mengalami penurunan tekanan emosional.
"Pria yang mempertahankan hubungan tanpa pernikahan, tanpa sadar terus-menerus menguji hubungan tersebut. Sehingga akan sangat mungkin menimbulkan prasangka negatif terhadap pasangan, agresi fisik yang lebih besar, hingga terjadinya penurunan komitmen. Sedang pria yang memutuskan untuk menikah tidak melihat hubungan tersebut sebagai sebuah tes, melainkan penuh kepercayaan. Sehingga lebih mampu menikmati manfaatnya dan berinvestasi lebih banyak dalam pernikahan,” papar penulis studi.
Namun sebelum Anda memutuskan untuk mengirimkan foto cincin pertunangan pada pasangan, temuan ini masih memiliki keterbatasan. Pasalnya peneliti tidak meneliti lebih dalam tentang kualitas hubungan pasca pernikahan.
Dengan kata lain, kesehatan mental pria dinilai akan membaik bila pria dan istrinya memiliki hubungan yang solid. Bila yang terjadi sebaliknya, bukan tidak mungkin pria akan mengalami tekanan emosional yang tinggi.
